| Dear Alpha Theta alumni, If youve had a chance to read our most recent newsletter, youve probably heard by now that we have decided to undertake the most extensive renovations on the house since it was constructed. Two years ago, the Alpha Theta Alumni Corporation put together a committee to explore the exact costs of the renovations mandated by the College and the Fuller Audit, audit our accounts, and to explore the creation of a fundraising plan unlike any that we have undertaken in the past. This past Spring, the committee presented its findings to the Alpha Theta Corporation and the Corporation voted unanimously to move forward with our plan as we had outlined, and not to sell the house to the college. It has been an emotional time over the past year with all the uncertainties, but now it has been decided that our Alpha Theta will remain ours. Extensive renovations will be commencing in 2008, and this coming summer the house, for the first time since the College went to year-round operation, will be closed while crucial life-safety improvements and long-needed repairs are made. Which leads us to the purpose of this letter. We need your help, and by help we of course mean money. We would like to raise $200,000 to fund these renovations and to help erase our existing debt. Many of you have already pledged your financial support with a three-year commitment. In fact, although this request is only going out now, we have already received close to $55,000 in pledges for the first three years. Many of you have already sent checks based on our last newsletter. We would like to thank those who have already lent their support to this effort, especially the upstanding class of 1961! If you pledged money and have not yet sent it in a check for your first years donation, this is a gentle nudge to do so using the address at the bottom of this page. It is also possible to make a donation on-line using your credit card, with the secure PayPal service. From the breathtaking staircase, to the wood paneled living room and the warm fireplaces, we can all agree that Alpha Theta is one of the nicest houses on campus. 33 North Main Street was our residence, physically or socially, for years when we were on campus. We owe its existence to the alumni of Alpha Theta who rebuilt the house in the 1940s. It is now our turn our chance to add our names to its legacy. If you were not one of the early donors, we ask that you consider Alpha Theta in your giving this year. We have enclosed pledge cards and envelopes for your convenience. Please think about it; this is a chance to affect the life of students at the College directly, at a scale where you can come by and see your dollars at work. Thank you for your time and money!
